Óbidos & Nazaré
Get ready for a fascinating journey through the pages of Portugal's history, where the mystical intertwines with reality, and where each stop reveals a unique chapter of this country's rich cultural heritage.
Starting from Lisbon, we head to the stunning village of Nazaré, now globally known for its giant waves. The traditional fish drying, the "Sete Saias" costume, or the extensive sandy beach are just a few of the curiosities of this village. Here is the perfect place to enjoy fresh fish or a seafood feast, where climbing up to the "Sítio" is a must, just like visiting the lighthouse or the Memory Chapel.
Our next stop is Óbidos: A medieval and fortified village, one of the best-preserved in Portugal, that seems to come straight out of a fairy tale. Its geographical location was of great strategic importance in the territory's conquest. It was chosen as the residence of the royal family, and when in the 13th century King Dinis decided to give it as a wedding gift to Queen Isabel, Óbidos became part of the Queens' House, benefiting and enriching throughout the various dynasties. Within the walls, among Manueline portals, flowered windows, and white houses, we find a well-preserved castle, a maze of streets with good examples of religious and civil architecture from the village's golden age, and the famous "Ginja" liqueur of Óbidos.
